Formal Disclosure
Formal Disclosure
A Formal Disclosure is a process in which both partners work diligently with their individual therapist on the timeline of their relationship, beginning on the day they met and ending on the day of the disclosure. Preparations for Formal Disclosure generally take six to eight weeks of guided self-discovery in conjunction with a recovery program with the end goal being the health of the coupleship.
After the historical timeline is completed and both partners are secure in the process, a formal disclosure four-person meeting is planned. The acting out partner cannot heal with secrets still in place and the injured partner cannot heal if they don’t have the truth of what they are healing.
Note: if there is any reason for immediate information to be given as due to STDs, acting out with a person known to the injured partner, financial ruin, or legal actions, a four-person (two clients and their therapists) meeting is called.
